Angela and I went and saw Michael Moore tonight at the Sonoma County Fair Grounds. He was intelligent and humorous as usual, and for the most part I agree with what he is saying. However Mr. Moore tends to do what I see a lot of vocal liberals and conservatives do which is lump the opposite side into a big faceless mob.
Categorizing all conservatives as evil, or all liberals as crazy is just plain ignorant. People are individuals first and part of a group secondly, and those individuals have their own ideas and thoughts that may not always be in agreeance with the general group.
I did enjoy hearing him speak on such issues as the waning support for President Bush and the current war in Iraq; the upcoming presidential election and the democratic hopefuls for 2004, and of course California’s new governor.
The highlight of the night though was when Mr. Moore brought up the dumbest German citizen in the audience and the smartest SSU student, and had them answer three questions on world politics and geography. Here’s the questions the American got:
- Who is the leader of Germany?
- What is the capital of Germany?
- Name three countries that border Afghanistan.
The American only got one of the three questions correct, and the German got two of the three. I can’t say I would have faired any better I only answered the first one correct. The point of it all was to show how ill informed most Americans are in comparison to other countries.
Does Michael Moore smell? I heard he smells.
I don’t know, I wasn’t close enough to tell.
Do you think it shows that?
Ask a German and an American two questions about Germany and then see which is better informed?
It’s a joke, right?
Ian,
Sorry I wasn’t very clear on this point. The German got the inverse questions:
“Who is the leader of the U.S. ?”
“What is the capital of the U.S. ?”
“Name three countries that border Iraq.”
