This is our new fridge; it’s quiet, energy efficient, and best of all it keeps food cold (something our old fridge stopped doing).
We purchased it from Sears, and when purchasing large appliances from Sears there are a few things future consumers should be aware of.
When they say that they will deliver it tomorrow, take it with a grain of salt. While Sears will deliver your fridge, they will not pick it up. Oh no, that all happens through an entirely different company, whom with you will need to schedule an appointment. That appointment in our case was two weeks past our scheduled delivery date.
I of course immediately called to postpone our scheduled delivery date, but stupid me scheduled the pick-up of our old fridge, on the same day as the delivery of our new fridge. Not thinking that the pick-up happens early in the morning and that they expect the old fridge to be waiting outside for them. But the new fridge, and consequently my help moving the old fridge out, would not be around until late afternoon.
*sigh*
The end result was that Angela and I ended up renting a dolly and moving the old fridge out to the street ourselves.
While the whole ordeal was not too terrible, it was certainly more work than I had expected when we went in to make the purchase. The real problem I see with the situation is the separation of duties between pick-up and delivery. There is no communication between either party, the onus is on you as the consumer to work the whole thing out, and that just sounds like bad business. As a proprietor you want your customer telling all their friends about how easy and wonderful it was to buy something from you. But in this case, as you can see, I am telling you all how difficult and un-pleasant it was to purchase from Sears.
Holy crap. I haven’t read the word “onus” since I studied for the SAT. Kudos for using a great word. It’s like a combination of “bad” and “thing you have to do” which is probably what I would have said: a bad thing you have to do.
We had a problem with Sears when we purchased a washer/dryer from them. The guys that delivered the set told us that the exhaust hose from the dryer was larger than the one going into the wall. They told my wife (who was at the house by herself) that she would have to go to Home Depot and get a smaller hose because they weren’t sure they had anymore in the truck. Not that they didn’t have anymore. Just that they weren’t sure. She asked them to check and they never returned.
Poor service after the sale.
New fridge looks good – now you just need to install a shank / spigot and invest in a 5 gallon keg!
